Patna: Over 30 people were killed and several injured when a stampede broke out in Patna's Gandhi Maidan on Friday evening. The incident happened during Ravan Dahan festivities soon after the effigy of Ravan was burnt. Several women and children were among those killed.
According to CNN-IBN, the injured were shifted to Patna Medical College and NDRF teams were rushed to the spot.
"All efforts should be towards rescue operations. This is not the time to do politics," JDU leader Ali Anwar told CNN-IBN.
A NDTV report said: "The stampede occurred at a narrow road outside the Gandhi Maidan as people were returning after watching Dussehra celebrations. Reports suggest not all gates of the Maidan were open for exit."
According to the channel, a huge crowd was seen outside Patna Medical College with anxious relatives waiting to kow about the fate of their near and dear ones.
